Have you ever felt like this trying to learn English?

I get it. English can be hard, especially when it's not taught in a way that makes it easy. Which is exactly what I'm here for!

Let's uncomplicate things.

You probably have nightmares like this blurry photo when you picture learning another language. But what if I told you English really... isn't that complicated? It's actually easier than most languages, and it's even easier when it's taught by someone who's had to learn languages themself?

No better time to start.

English is only growing more important every day. The whole world ultimately operates off of English nowadays, and there's more English content (both positive and negative) than ever to absorb. But the key reason there's no better time than now to start? You now have access to a different kind of teacher.

Say hello to Yours Truly.

I'm a native English speaker who was forming full sentences in English before even attending school. On the other hand I'm also a Spanish speaker and a speaker of Portuguese, a language I speak every single day (often more than I speak English) and had to learn from scratch. I've had to learn languages myself! I didn't have the luxury of being taught from the cradle, but because of that, I'm equipped to teach YOU. And because I've had to do it more than once, I've picked up some shortcuts along the way to get you actually speaking and understanding things much quicker than your typical language classes would, and in a way that prepares you to LIVE in a language.

So what makes me and my course so different? Simple: Shortcuts, Passion, Understanding, and actual Applicability.

Shortcuts

I got the idea for shortcuts after probably my fiftieth conversation with Brazilians telling me about their experience in language classes in Brazil. They mentioned that their classes would go on for a year or even two giving ONLY basic material, like the verb to be and things about tenses (past/present/future). The idea behind this, I imagine, is to create a firm base for those students, but what it translates to for them is the inability to actually speak or understand any English at the end of the course, because that is such a tiny fraction of our daily conversation!

Therefore I got the idea to take the opposite approach. Obviously you need to know the verb "To Be" to speak English, but you don't need to spend a year on it. Conjugating it incorrectly or even not conjugating it at all is actually still understandable by the majority of English speakers. So instead, I quickly get the course into material that MATTERS. For example, important nouns (like "bathroom", "classroom", and "girlfriend") and then important verbs. You'll be forming real sentences in my class way faster than you would in a traditional class. Then we can fine-tune things later. You'll also get help on your accent from a native speaker!

Passion

I started using any spare time I had to travel when I was about 17 years old, and I've been solo traveling the world ever since. I've lived in 3 countries and been to all 6 inhabited continents (North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Oceania/Australia). I speak 3 languages myself and that number probably won't be the same for every long.

I have a PASSION for people, and for helping people! Teaching English is one of the most common careers for foreigners, and for me it's more than just a career choice: I'm invested in the actual people on the other end too. Just ask anyone who's met me: I really apply myself for the people around me. And, it's not just about me, it's a two-way-street. In my class, we're actually going to "conviver", as they say in Portuguese: we'll laugh together, we'll struggle together, we'll triumph together, and of course, we'll learn together. I'm here to treat you as an individual, not just another number!

Understanding

Having traveled all over the world has given me eyes to see and understand people from every walk of life. I've met people who are extremely wealthy, people who are extremely poor, people who love to travel and people who have never left the town they were born in. I know people in the city and people in the country, young people, old people, and everything in between. One of the biggest lessons I've picked up in my travels is how at the end of the day, we're all human. And we're all starting from a unique place. And I bring that same lesson here to the school.

I treat every student as an individual and know that they're each coming with a unique background, a unique story, and a unique reason why they want to learn English. I don't get upset when people have questions or need some repetition. Because I can treat you as the individual you are, and yet the collective as a loved group of students, I can help ensure both your individual success and the success of our whole group to help get us each where we need to be! All I ask is that you do your part too and that you respect your fellow students.

Applicability

People want to learn English for a number of reasons. Some want to do it to advance in their career, some want to do it to expand their options for where to live, some want to do it to watch their favorite shows, and some want to do it just to have conversations with people who speak English. Whatever your reason, the beauty of my school is that I bring my "Americanness" into it to help you learn how we actually speak English and learn things that matter, rather than material that you won't absorb and will forget two days later. I don't insist on meaningless repetition or make work just for the sake of making work. So you can rest knowing that my class will be focused on helping you REALLY learn and get you speaking real conversations, fast.
